School of Mathematics Teaching

Requirements

Your year of study, grades, and the ability to speak the language of the country you are visiting are factors in deciding if you can go on an exchange.

Year of study

Exchanges take place during Year 3 for students on BSc programmes, and during Year 4 for students on integrated masters (MMath) programme. Note that this is about the year of programme, not your year of attendance (the two are different for, for example, direct entry students). Please discuss possibilities with your Personal Tutor in the first instance.

Grades

In order to be considered for an exchange, students are expected to have achieved:

  • at least a C in each of Introduction to Linear Algebra, Proofs and Problem Solving, and Calculus and its Applications
  • at least a B in each of Several Variable Calculus and Differential Equations and Fundamentals of Pure Mathematics
  • (for MMath going abroad in year 4) at least 65% in each of the four Honours courses (Analysis, Algebra, Complex Variables, and Differential Equations)

Language

Any student who will study in a language other than English must provide evidence of their language level, demonstrating a minimum of level B2 (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).  If this evidence is not provided, a language test will need to be taken.  Check carefully in what language your chosen destination will teach.
