Course Assessment

If there are sudden problems and I cannot submit my online assignment, are there any measures to solve this problem?

Yes, of course! In the first instance please contact your Course Secretary (you’ll find their contact details on the LEARN page for your course) and discuss it with them. You should explain what happened and we will work out what can be done and advise you further.

More generally, the current Special Circumstances process and advice state: Special Circumstances will be considered where they are exceptional for the individual student, beyond their control, and where there is evidence that they have negatively affected their performance in assessment. https://www.ed.ac.uk/staff/supporting-students/academic-procedures/special-circumstances Specific information will follow with regards to Special Circumstances and Covid-19. https://www.ed.ac.uk/news/covid-19/current-students

If you have any questions surrounding this process, please get in contact with the School of Mathematics Student Support team and they will be happy to assist: studentsupport@maths.ed.ac.uk

Can a student go home (non-locally) and finish their remaining assessments online?

Yes, from 23rd March, the vast majority of teaching will be carried out remotely.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What form/format will the still existing coursework assessment be delivered? For example, do we scan the script and upload it or answer the questions via learn?

The LEARN webpage for your course will have all the details you need.  If you are unsure, please contact your Course Organiser and Course Secretary.

Immigration and Travel

How do I continue to engage for my T4 visa?

This is explained in one of the bullet points in CVD-19 webpage: https://www.ed.ac.uk/news/covid-19/current-students.

We do recognise that not it may not be possible for all students to engage with their studies in this way. If you think you will be unable to engage with your studies remotely, please contact Student Support at studentsupport@maths.ed.ac.uk.

All Tier 4 students should continue to check the advice of the Student Immigration Service regularly, as they can give you up-to-date advice on any travel restrictions there may be with regards to your visa status. The link to their webpage is below.

Student Immigration Service webpage: https://www.ed.ac.uk/student-administration/immigration

If I decide to go back home, do I need to tell someone to ask for leave or can I go directly?

From 23rd March, the vast majority of teaching will be carried out remotely.

Students are free to leave Edinburgh if they wish to. It is important that we have an accurate record of students who have, or will be, leaving Edinburgh. Please ensure that you:

  • Let the School know as soon as possible by contacting the Student Support team at studentsupport@maths.ed.ac.uk.
  • Update your address on MyEd so that we have current contact details for you.

International students may wish to consider advice from their embassy. International Students with immigration queries should contact:  https://www.ed.ac.uk/news/covid-19/current-studentshttps://www.ed.ac.uk/student-administration/immigration

Schedule of Adjustments for Students with Disabilities

If I am working from home with online submissions, will my schedule of adjustments still apply?

We fully anticipate that student learning adjustments will be applied, however, depending on the nature of the online assessment and the specific adjustment we may need to consult with the Student Disability Service. Please contact your Course Organiser, Course Secretary and Student Support if you have any questions.

You can also contact the Student Disability Service for advice at disability.service@ed.ac.uk.
