Taking extra credits

The procedure for Personal Tutors with tutees taking extra credits in Honours Years.

Please see the undergraduate degree programme regulations to find information about the possibility of students taking extra credits (section 46).

Undergraduate degree programme regulations

Personal Tutors should consult the Curriculum Approval Officer for advice. Applications for concessions for additional credits in Honours Years are to be submitted to MathematicsConcessions@ed.ac.uk. The application should contain the following information:

  • A list of all the courses that the student intends to take and be examined in with a total points tally.
  • A statement that only 120 points of those courses will be used for degree assessment purposes and identification of those courses.
  • The strongest possible case that you can make for the student.

The more straightforward course of action for such students is for them to take extra courses as 'Class Only', and this should be recommended.
