Even our normal Year 1 is considered by students as challenging. (Note that most of our first-year students have mathematics grade A in Advanced Higher or A-Level.)You will take accelerated versions of the Year 1 courses. These are:Accelerated Algebra and CalculusAccelerated Proofs and Problem SolvingChanging between accelerated and broad programmesThere are strictly-imposed deadlines for changing between the accelerated and broad programmes (further details below). If you have any doubts about your choice of programme, you should speak to your Student Adviser as soon as possible.Please note that if you are a sponsored visa student you must seek clarification from the Student Immigration Service before any changes to your programme can be made.Transferring from the accelerated to the broad programmeIt is possible to transfer to Year 1 from the accelerated programme. If you would like to do so you should discuss this with your Student Adviser as soon as possible, who will change your programme year and enroll you on the correct courses. This must be completed by the end of week 2 of teaching. Transferring from the broad programme to the accelerated programmeIf you decide on arriving in Edinburgh that you would like to transfer from the broad to the accelerated programme, you will need to act quickly: this is only possible in the first few days of ‘Welcome Week’. Information about the transfer process will be provided during the new Undergraduate students’ ‘Welcome Talk’.Please note that the entry requirements for transferring to the accelerated programme are strict. You will only be able to transfer if you fully satisfy the requirements. It is also possible to change degree programme to one that offers an accelerated programme if necessary.
