What to expect from your academic supervisor The supervisory team will give advice on the subject area, relevant literature, methodology, the structure of the dissertation, and the scheduling of the work to be done. The final responsibility for the dissertation always lies with you. Advisers will not read and amend the drafts of the dissertation. The responsibility for the quality and content of a dissertation lies with the author of the dissertation. Academic staff acting as the supervisory team is expected to be available in the scheduled drop-in sessions during the summer period, although academic staff will provide backup facilities during their absence.
