Information about having your say, Programme Representatives and the Student-Staff Liaison Committee The School of Mathematics welcomes your thoughts on what you feel works and what could be improved. We will act on your suggestions, where possible, in the current or following academic year. There are a few different ways in which we collect and action your feedback. Course FeedbackYou will be asked to complete anonymous course feedback at the middle and end of each semester. Your thoughts go to the Course Organiser who will aim to directly address any issues raised and will inform students of any outcomes. End of semester course feedback will also be made available to the School Teaching Committee (STC). The STC develops policy on the delivery of taught courses and monitors activity within those courses. All students are encouraged to directly contact the Course Organiser or Course Administrator throughout semester with any questions concerning the delivery or content of the course. Contact details can be found on the course Learn page under Course Contacts. You are also welcome to bring any issues to your Programme Representative who can address these on your behalf. Undergraduate Programme RepresentativesWithin the School of Maths, there is one School Representative, and usually two Programme Representatives per year group (also referred to as Class or Year Reps), who volunteer or are elected at the beginning of each academic year. They represent your views on your course and programme, and ensure that Academic and Support staff are continually listening to and engaging with students. Ultimately, your Reps work in partnership with staff to improve the student experience for current and future students in Maths. Applications for becoming a Programme Representative will soon be open!Programme Representatives represent all students in their year group. Their role is to gather proactively feedback from other students on the School’s teaching, learning and student support arrangements (both positive feedback, and feedback about areas where there is room for improvement). Programme Representatives share this feedback with relevant staff, primarily through attending Student-Staff Liaison Committee (SSLC) meetings each semester. They subsequently feed back to students about how this feedback has been received and responded to by the School. What are the benefits of being a Programme Representative? In addition to contributing to ongoing improvement in the School, being a Programme Representative provides an excellent opportunity for both personal and professional development. Programme Representatives who complete their initial training and end-of-year handover will automatically receive HEAR recognition. They may also then choose to work towards the Students’ Association’s ‘Leadership in Student Opportunities’ Edinburgh Award, and the nationally recognised Saltire Award. You can find more information about the role at:Edinburgh University Students' AssociationApplications close on Monday 22nd September at noon.
