I don't know where to start

It's ok if you don't know where to start; the Careers Service have resources to help.

It’s quite normal to feel unsure (even anxious) when thinking about life after your degree.  This short video created by an Edinburgh student offers some great advice to help you begin.

Keep in mind that you aren’t planning your whole career. You are considering your next step(s) following graduation – which is much less daunting.  To guide you, the Careers Service has devised a framework, Careers Compass, which splits the process into five smaller parts:

The Careers Compass can help you review what you've done, explore your options, plan next steps and chart progress along the way. It's designed to help you take small steps  throughout your time at university. Everything we offer is clearly linked to the Careers Compass so you can see where you are developing, identify possible gaps and plan your year ahead. Whether you are in first year or final year, focussed or unsure, it can guide you with suggestions of what to do and when. Time is precious - use the Compass to help you make the most of it.  The Student Guide will help you to begin. It suggests a few quick and easy things you can do to start. In more depth, use the Toolkits to explore career ideas, build experience and make confident applications.

Look out for the Career Essentials guide each semester: the Careers Service’s programme of live sessions, recorded content for 24/7 viewing, and resources to help you to develop your employability and explore career ideas.
