MSc Challenge Flexible Learning Week takes place every year in February and gives you the opportunity to take advantage of a wide range of events that run throughout the University of Edinburgh.Here in the School of Maths, during this time we offer the MSc Challenge. This is a great opportunity to learn new transferable skills, as well as develop a wide range of skills that you didn’t even know you had, by engaging with a week-long challenge where the School of Maths partners with Industry to present to you a real-world problem. This is an invaluable chance to get a real sense of the dynamics of working in industry as part of a team. By participating in the Challenge, you will:Develop problem-solving, time management, teamwork and project management skills;Have an invaluable experience to add to your C.V. and discuss at interview;Gain a chance to work on a real-world problem with industry;Make an impact to the challenge partner;And so much more!Academic Year 2024/2025 ChallengeLast year, we partnered with Public Health Scotland and the challenge title was, "The Impact of Climate Change on Health". Students from across multiple schools worked together to address the challenge, with data provided by Public Health Scotland, over the course of Flexible Learning Week. Students analysed the provided data and researching around the topic of the challenge to answer the questions and topic focus that has been set. At the end of the week, students presented their findings and what they learnt to a panel of judges.Register to attend the 2025/2026 ChallengeIf you wish to attend this event you must register, as we have a limited capacity of spaces available. The challenge is extremely popular and as such participation will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please register now to avoid disappointment. If we reach capacity we will operate a waiting list.More detailed information of the challenge locations, times, etc will be sent to you shortly before the challenge begins. Please keep an eye on your emails.Information about registration will be provided in semester 2.If you are no longer able to attend and need to cancel your booking, please do so at your earliest opportunity and at least 3 days before the event where possible.
